California school cites stage construction flaw
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — A stage that collapsed at a Southern California high school during the weekend, injuring 28 students, had a construction flaw and a building permit can't be found.
That's according to a statement Wednesday on the website of Servite High School in Anaheim.
Students from a sister school were performing on Saturday when an apron covering the orchestra pit failed, and students tumbled several feet. Some suffered broken bones.
A website statement from school President Peter S. Bowen says an internal investigation found that the apron, which was built in the early 1980s, had a construction flaw — although the statement isn't specific. The school also says it hasn't found a record of a building permit.
Servite says it's submitting plans for a new stage apron to the city.
