California primary results: Carbajal, Cole advance in District 24 House race

Democratic incumbent Salud Carbajal and Republican challenger Thomas Cole have advanced to the Nov. 5 general election for the 24th Congressional District, unofficial results for the primary show.

As of March 29, Carbajal had 102,515 votes, or 53.7% of the total, compared to 71,084 votes, or 37.2%, for Cole. Both were far ahead of Ojai Democrat Helena Pasquarella who had 9% of ballots.

The district encompasses Ojai and Ventura as well as all of Santa Barbara County and part of San Luis Obispo County.

In Ventura County's part of the district, Carbajal received 49.6% of the total and Cole had 36.8% as of March 29.

Issues in the primary included the war in Ukraine, spending and congressional priorities.

Carbajal is a four-term incumbent from Goleta. He said he’ll continue to work on lowering the cost of living, building safer communities and growing the middle class.

Cole is a Republican data election analyst from Montecito. He wants to close borders, focus on domestic issues including education, and slash spending on foreign wars.

Pasquarella is a teacher and a peace activist. She wanted to cut military spending, invest in social programs and fight for economic and environmental justice.
