California holds far fewer for illegal immigration
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Fifteen sheriffs' departments surveyed by The Associated Press in California reported declines in the number of immigrants arrested by local law enforcement who were turned over to federal immigration authorities since a new state law took effect in January. The table shows the number of immigrants released to Immigration and Customs Enforcement in the first two months of 2014, compared with a year earlier.
Eight other departments were also surveyed. Many gave partial responses but could not provide the full data: Alameda, Contra Costa, Fresno, Kern, Monterey, Orange, Sacramento and San Mateo.
