California Dreamin’ water park at Cal Expo not opening in 2024
(FOX40.COM) — The opening of California Dreamin’, which is slated to replace Raging Waters at Cal Expo, is delayed, according to water park operators.
Steven Dooner, CEO of Silverwood Entertainment, told FOX40.com mostly every attraction at the current park site will be replaced and there is a large amount of work to be done for the water park to reopen safely.
“Combined with the permitting process with the state, we are hoping to commence demolition later this summer and reopen in 2025,” Silverwood Entertainment CEO Steven Dooner told FOX40.com. “After closely inspecting the park with our partners at the Department of Occupational Safety and Health, it was decided that a complete rebuild was in order instead of a series of modifications.”

Dooner said the entire layout of the water park will change with multiple attractions being replaced. One of the the differences the site plan shows is a raft ride tower situated at the center of the park where the wave pool is currently located.
A new wave pool and beach are not shown on the site plan, but Dooner said those attractions will located on the southwest corner of the park.
Only attractions that will remain with the newly designed park are the lazy river and speed slides at the park’s northwest corner.
Other plans for the water park include new slides, tube rides, an expanded lazy river with a swim-up bar, an all-new children’s area and an arcade.
In February 2023, Silverwood Entertainment took over as operators for the former Raging Waters site after the latter closed after 15 years. Silverwood Entertainment announced it signed a long-term lease to take over the water park site in August. 2023.
The company plan for revamping the water park included expanding operations into two venues: Calibunga and Cal Soleil.
Calibunga is planned to be the water park while Cal Solei is slated to be a year-round operation as a restaurant and wine bar.
Silverwood Entertainment originally planned a target opening date for this year on Memorial Day, as part of three-year $30 million plan to reimagine the property.
Dooner previously told FOX40.com that the Memorial Day opening was slated to be for the wine garden with the full water park opening next year.
