Calif. Women Allegedly Raped, Left Bloodied in Gruesome Attacks: 'He Bashed My Face In’

A man is in custody after two women were allegedly brutally raped and beaten while walking alone in Los Angeles, Calif., earlier this month, according to authorities.

Anthony Francisco Jones, 29, was arrested on Thursday in connection with the April 6 attacks, the Los Angeles Police Department announced on Friday.

The women were allegedly attacked in separate incidents while they were alone in the Venice Canals neighborhood between 10:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on April 6, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said in an announcement on Monday.

The women are in their mid-40s and mid-50s, per the statement. Police did not release the identities of the victims, but one woman is speaking out about her assault.

Mary Klein, 54, was reportedly out on a walk to “get in her daily 10,000 steps” when she was attacked, according to a GoFundMe set up by her friend Kathleen Butler.

“All of a sudden, I just get knocked out,” Klein told KTLA. “My teeth got knocked out. My jaw is wired shut. He bashed my face in.”

Klein said the surprise attack left her disoriented as she fell to the ground and the suspect allegedly punched her in her head and face several times, per the outlet.

“I think he was trying to kill me,” she told the outlet. “It was like being hit by a truck.”

Klein is a single mother and full-time caregiver for an elderly woman with ALS, according to KTLA and the fundraiser.

The GoFundMe description also detailed the gruesome injuries inflicted on Klein, who was left with 8 fractures, a “large laceration” on the back of her head and her teeth “bashed out” among other facial and neck injuries.

Jones was initially booked on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder, per LAPD’s announcement.

In Monday’s statement, Gascón announced Jones has been charged with several sexual assault offenses, including rape and sodomy, as well as torture in connection with the alleged attacks.

Jones is being held on $3.25 million bail, online jail records show. It wasn't immediately clear if he has retained an attorney or entered a plea.
