Calf scramble scholarships awarded to Weatherford, Aledo FFA students

Mar. 30—FORT WORTH — Several representatives from Weatherford and Aledo FFAs were recently awarded scholarships by the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo's Calf Scramble Scholarship Committee.

Carsyn Barnett, of Aledo FFA, received a $10,000 scholarship, while Allison Fugitt, of Weatherford FFA, and Ellie Walters, Logan Belt and Phoenix Lanford, all of Aledo FFA, received a $6,000 scholarship.

These students participated in the 2023 Fort Worth Stock Show Calf Scramble program making them eligible for the scholarship program. Sixty-eight Texas 4-H and FFA members shared in $440,000 in Calf Scramble scholarship dollars.

Their scholarships were the were result of hard work and dedication necessary for participants to complete the rigorous Calf Scramble program. The moment they caught a calf during a 2023 Stock Show rodeo performance their Calf Scramble journey began. These youth utilized Stock Show funds toward the purchase of a calf that they cared for in 2023.

Barnett is the daughter of Jennifer and David Barnett.

Her Beefmaster heifer project was sponsored by Berend Land and Cattle of Henrietta. Caring for their heifer, submitting monthly reports, exhibiting at the 2024 Fort Worth Livestock Show and submitting a final essay were required for scholarship consideration. Meeting in February, the Committee awarded Barnett her scholarship.
