Cafe owner sexually assaulted boy, 14, court told
A 55-year-old man sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy and offered to buy him an iPhone, a court has heard.
Andrew Mackenzie, 55, from Cardiff, is accused of four counts of sexual activity with a child on two separate occasions in May 2021.
The boy, who cannot be named, said he and Mr Mackenzie met when he went to Mr Mackenzie's cafe, Coffee & Cakes.
Mr Mackenzie denies all the charges.
The jury was shown a police video interview with the boy in which he told officers he went into Mr Mackenzie's bedroom in an extension built behind the cafe in the Birchgrove area of Cardiff.
The boy said he saw cameras in the bedroom and said Mr Mackenzie told him he had a "nice bum" and would give him £50 to take his pants off.
The boy said he was saving for a new phone and "was just thinking about getting the money".
He said Mr Mackenzie began kissing him and touching him intimately, offering him more money, making him "really nervous and uncomfortable".
The boy said Mr Mackenzie later asked him to record a film on his phone saying his name and giving his age as 18, but "he knew I was 14".
The jury heard the teenager agreed to go to the extension for a second time on 30 May 2021 because he thought Mr Mackenzie would give him "a lot of money."
The boy said Mr Mackenzie told him he would by him a new iPhone "if I see him three times".
When he arrived, he said he was told by Mr Mackenzie to go into the bedroom and "get naked".
The court heard police forensic tests on a duvet cover in Mr Mackenzie's bedroom found DNA belonging to him and the boy.
The boy said he spoke to a friend who told him to talk to the police.
