According to a release, a ribbon cutting will be held for the reopening of the site on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. at the Caddo Mounds State Historic Site at 1649 State Highway 21 West.
The reopening will highlight the completion of a $2.5 million visitor center and the restoration of a traditional style grass house, the release said. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
According to the Texas Historical Commission, more than 1,200 years ago the Indigenous Caddo people built a village and ceremonial center on the site, with three mounds that are “still considered sacred to the Caddo people.”
