Cañon City police seek information in tire slashing spree

(CAÑON CITY, Colo.) — The Cañon City Police Department (CCPD) is asking for the community’s help in finding a suspect who police said slashed tires overnight on Thursday, May 16.

CCPD said in the nighttime hours of Thursday and into Friday, May 17, an unknown suspect or suspects traveled through the area of Cañon City from 1st Street to 19th Street and between Main Street and College Avenue, allegedly slashing tires on vehicles. CCPD received multiple reports and was still getting calls on Monday, May 20.

CCPD is asking anyone with information to contact police and any in the areas to check doorbell camera footage or any other surveillance footage that might have captured suspicious persons during the overnight hours of Thursday.

Police are also asking the community to call and report anything out of the ordinary in their neighborhood day or night, particularly true for anyone you see in communities at odd hours of the evening or early morning hours.

CCPD said if you see anyone in your neighborhood, particularly during the overnight hours, to call and report them and do not approach to investigate them yourself; as they could be armed and violent.

CCPD can be reached at the on-duty Patrol Sergeant at (719) 276-5600 extension 6 or Crime Stoppers at (719) 275-7867.
