C Spire to expand fiber infrastructure in Robertsdale

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — C Spire, a telecommunications and technology services company, is working by their mission, “We’re here to keep you connected,” by working to expand fiber infrastructure.

According to a press release, the expansion of fiber will allow the company to “offer multi-gigabit home internet service with speeds up to 8-gig to thousands of homes in Robertsdale, Alabama. “

“C Spire has prioritized fiber infrastructure in Alabama through a $500 million investment over
the last three years,” said Toby Dubois, general manager of home services for C Spire. “Connectivity serves as a catalyst for community transformation, fostering innovation, attracting investment and driving economic growth. We are excited to provide residents of Robertsdale
with the advantages of ultra-fast and reliable home internet.”

Officials said that construction of the fiber is in progress in Nana Loob and Richmond Street. The construction is supposed to come to more neighborhoods over the next 12-18 months, according to the release.

The construction comes after Governor Kay Ivey decided to prioritize funding for high-speed internet in Alabama.

“High-speed internet service continues to strengthen and expand across the state, and we are taking the necessary strides on this journey to achieve full broadband access for Alabama,” said Governor Ivey in a February press release. “This has been a monumental task, but it is one that will pay multiple dividends for our state and its residents. Today is an exciting day as we announce these latest projects.”

Although C Spire’s expansion is not part of the funding provided — Troy Cablevision (C Spire) received funding to expand broadband services in parts of Dale and Houston counties. — AT&T Southeast and Mediacom were provided grants to help expand the broadband service in Mobile and Baldwin counties.
