César Chávez Breakfast celebrates the legacy of the farm labor activist

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern County community came together on Thursday, three days before the birthday of the late farm labor leader César Chávez.

On March 28, the life and legacy of César Chávez was celebrated in downtown Bakersfield. The 8th annual César Chávez Breakfast was held Thursday morning at the Marriott Hotel. The breakfast recognizes community leaders for their contributions to the Farmworkers Institute of Education & Leadership Development, also known as FIELD.

Activist Flor Martinez, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, and former Senator Richard Polanco were among those who were honored.

It all comes ahead of César Chávez Day, which is observed on March 31 each year.
