BYU fans bring the noise at the Marriott Center

PROVO, Utah (ABC4 Sports) – In its first year in the Big 12, the BYU basketball team is proving it can play with the best teams in the nation.

The Cougar fans are also showing they can be as loud as fans in the country.

There will be another sellout at the Marriott Center Tuesday night as #21 BYU takes on #4 Houston in a monstrous Big 12 showdown.

“I think Houston has a problem, and the problem is the ROC,” said BYU fan Lewis Gillespie, who was referring to the famed Roar of the Cougars student section.

BYU blows 16-point halftime lead, loses to Texas Tech

The Cougars are 10-1 at home this year, with its lone loss coming to Cincinnati. BYU just beat #24 Iowa State at home before losing to #25 Texas Tech last week.

ESPN’s Jay Bilas recently posted the top ten environments in college basketball, and BYU was not on the list, which some BYU fans took offense to.

“He needs to know that we are the best environment in college basketball,” one BYU fan said.

A win over #4 Houston would certainly cement BYU among the top teams in the best conference in the nation.

“If we win tonight, it’s going to be insane,” said one BYU fan. “They’re going to have to put the cavalry out to keep us off the court.”

BYU have most recently stormed the court in historic wins over #4 San Diego State in 2011 and #2 Gonzaga in 2020. But in the Big 12, the school gets fined $25,000 if fans storm the court.
