Byron building permit administration turned over to county

May 29—The Olmsted County Planning Department will begin administering Byron building permits Tuesday.
The permits, which had been processed by the city, will nor be available by applying in-person at county planning offices, 2122 Campus Drive SE, Suite 100, in Rochester; by email at planningweb@co.olmsted.mn.us; by mail to Building Inspections, 2122 Campus Drive SE, Suite 100, Rochester, MN 55904; or online at https://aca-prod.accela.com/OLMSTED
The online option is currently only available for residential plumbing and mechanical trades, but it offers a way to schedule inspections, pay for permits, share documents, manage multiple projects and search property information.
Permit fees for the City of Byron will remain the same, and Byron zoning inquiries should still be directed to Byron City Hall at 507-775-3400.
Any inspections related to building permits issued prior to June 1, will continue to be handled through the city and Tommy Thompson should be contacted at 507-356-8709.
Inspections handled by Olmsted County typically require at least a day's notice, but extenuating circumstances can be considered. Inspections can be scheduled online, by calling 507-328-7100 or visiting the Olmsted County Planning office.
