New Byrne Dairy location could be coming to Southport, what you need to know

SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WETM) — New York convenience store chain Byrne Dairy could be opening another store in Chemung County after information was found in the public agenda of Monday’s Southport Planning Board meeting.

According to the Agenda, a discussion was brought up to review a site plan of Sonbyrne Sales Inc., the parent company of Byrne Dairy, for the construction of a new gas station at 1151 Broadway in Southport, the former Pizza Hut lot.

When speaking to the Southport Code Enforcement secretary on Tuesday, March 5, she told 18 News that the discussion was brought up during the meeting, but nothing has been voted on yet.

A last lifeline for historic Brand Park Pool?

She added that more information will be brought up at the meeting on April 1, and then at the following meeting on May 6.

She said that if all of the information is presented at the May 6 meeting, there will be a vote to approve or deny the construction.

18 News contacted Sonbyrne Sales Inc. for any additional confirmation but provided no comment at this time other than confirming the company name was on the public agenda for the project.

If approved and constructed, this would put another business at the southern end of Southport, filling a space that was once filled by Pizza Hut.

18 News will continue to follow this story and provide updates when they become available.
