Byesville man arrested after sexual assault investigation involving 13-year-old girl

A 22-year-old Byesville man has been arrested pending charges for the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl, according to a press release from the Guernsey County Sheriff's Office (GCSO).

The Byesville man is currently in the county jail following a joint investigation between the GCSO Investigations Division and the Byesville Police Department. Byesville Police Chief Daulton Dolan requested assistance from the GCSO in a sexual assault investigation that was being reported to him, but likely occurring outside of the Byesville city limits.

Sheriff's investigators and Chief Dolan met with the victim’s mother. The report stated that by using social media apps, the 22-year-old male had been contacting the 13-year-old female. Officials reviewed the conversations and were then given further consent by the mother to engage with the man through the app.

While posing online as the 13-year-old, investigator’s made contact with the man and made plans to meet when the man indicated he wanted to engage in sexual intercourse with the juvenile. The Byesville man arrived at the pre-arranged location and an arrest was made. After being questioned at the jail by investigators, the man admitted his intent to engage in sexual intercourse with an 11 or 12-year-old child.

The case has been presented to the Prosecutor’s Office for review and felony charges are pending.
