Bus Veers off Bridge After Fight Between Passenger and Driver, Killing at Least 13: Reports
A heated brawl on a bus in China involving a passenger and driver led to a tragic accident, in which the vehicle careened off the bridge, killing at least 13 people, according to local reports.
As the two fought, the bus veered into oncoming traffic, hitting a car and then breaking through the barriers of a bridge in Chongqing's Wanzhou District on Oct. 28. Recently released footage taken from surveillance cameras inside the bus show the quarrel between the passenger and driver.
In the footage, the passenger appears to lash out at the driver, who in turn retaliates seconds before the bus crashed and plunged into the Yangtze River.
The 48-year-old passenger had reportedly missed her stop and asked the driver to stop on the road. When he refused, she became enraged and struck him, leading him to lose control of the vehicle, according to police.
Police have also released footage capturing the moment the bus went over the edge.
Fifteen people were on board the bus, but authorities have only retrieved 13 bodies. Two people remain missing.
The driver of the car that was hit by the bus before it went off the bridge was said to have sustained some injuries but is OK.
