Burke Co. man arrested, charged by GBI with Felony Murder

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – A Burke County man has been arrested and charged with Felony Murder by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in connection to the deaths of two people in Millen, Georgia.

Investigators say Raheem Whitfield, 28, of Waynesboro, has been charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime in connection to the deaths of Tyrell Brown, 28, of Garfield, and Maxine Jones, 48, of Millen.

According to GBI, the Millen Police Department responded to the Annie P. Chance Veteran’s Center located on Acorn Avenue in Millen in reference to a shooting on March 24th, 2024, at about 1:45 a.m., and authorities state that when they arrived on the scene and found Brown with a gunshot wound and Jones with no immediate signs of trauma.

However, according to investigators, Jones and Brown were both pronounced dead on the scene.

Authorities add that around 7:10 A.M., another shooting incident occurred on Wasdin Street, which investigators state that it appeared to be connected to the first incident, but no victims were injured during that particular shooting.

According to GBI, preliminary information from the autopsy determined that Brown and Jones each had a gunshot wound.

According to authorities, Whitfield turned himself in on Tuesday, March 26th and is currently booked at the Jenkins County Jail.
