Burglar used stolen credit card to have pizza delivered to home: Police

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – An accused Christmas Grinch was apprehended after using a stolen credit to have pizza delivered to his apartment.

According to the St. Louis County Police Department’s probable cause statement, Jacob C. Scholtes (age not provided) entered the home of Susie Wanner in the early morning hours of Dec. 25, 2023, while Susie and her family were asleep.

Police claim Scholtes stole Susie’s husband’s Christmas presents from under the tree, taking three credit cards from a purse.

“I subscribed (my husband) to a cigar of the month club…some Cardinals whiskey glasses, and a hot sauce-making kit,” Wanner said. “So, luckily, it was nothing too expensive.”

On Dec. 27, Scholtes used one of the stolen cards to have pizza delivered to his apartment. Investigators claim Scholtes’ cellphone was in the vicinity of the victims’ home at the time of the burglary.

The next month, Schotles made headlines when he stole jewelry from South County Mall and tried to ride off in a scooter. Wanner said detectives were able to pull cell phone data to connect him to the crime at her house.

Months later, Arnold police obtained a warrant for Scholtes’ apartment. On April 24, 2024, police searched the apartment and found one of the stolen presents, along with a small amount of wrapping paper and the shipping label still attached.

Wanner gave credit to the thief for being bold, but hopes it is his last pizza on the outside for a while.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Scholtes with first-degree burglary and three counts of stealing.

Earlier this year, Scholtes was arrested and charged with breaking into the South County Mall and stealing jewelry.
