Bullet enters kids’ bedroom during shooting in Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — No one was hurt when a bullet entered the closet of two children during a shooting in Battle Creek Thursday night.

Just after 10 p.m., officers with the Battle Creek Police Department were sent to the area of Oakbrook Boulevard near Capital Avenue SW after receiving reports of shots fired in the area.

Responding officers learned that a bullet had been shot outside of an apartment and landed in the closet of a bedroom belonging to a 9-year-old and 7-year-old. The police department said that neither of the children were in the bedroom at the time of the shooting, and no one was hurt.

While investigating, officers learned that a group of men were in front of the apartment when a second group of men fired shots from a carport on the other side of the courtyard, the police department said.

Officers believe that the victims and their apartment were not the intended target. The police department said that the public is not believed to be in danger.

Anyone with information is asked to call BCPD at 269.966.3322 or Silent Observer at 269.964.3888.
