Bulldog Insider feature: softball honors Amanda Scott and Donna Pickel

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE) – Fresno State Athletics honored two Bulldog softball icons on Friday evening at Margie Wright Diamond. Inaugural head coach Donna Pickel, and 4x All-American and National Champion pitcher Amanda Scott.

Donna Pickel and Amanda Scott are the two newest names to hang under the press box at Margie Wright Diamond.

Pickel created the Fresno State softball program. She coached the Bulldogs for eight seasons held an overall coaching record of (306-146-7). Pickel guided the Bulldogs to an impressive (200-24) record in conference play. Her career at Fresno State was highlighted by three NorCal Championships (1978, 1982, 1983).

“So humbling. I’m very proud because I always remember why softball got started here and maybe the role I had in it” said coach Donna Pickel.

At Friday’s ceremony, it was announced an anonymous donor donated $25 thousand to the Fresno State softball program in honor of coach Donna Pickel.

Amanda Scott was a Bulldog from 1997-2000. She was named MVP of the National Championship in 1998. Scott is one of the most decorated players in program history. She finished her four years in the pitching circle with a record of (106-18).
