Bulk Barn Foods Ltd. Raises Record Amount for Alzheimer Society Fundraising

RICHMOND HILL, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov 13, 2012) - Bulk Barn Foods Ltd. presented the Alzheimer Society of Canada with a cheque for $275,201, the largest one year donation that the company has made since the "Coffee Break" fundraiser started in 2005.

"We''re thrilled with the extraordinary results of this year''s campaign and we''re honoured that the Bulk Barn team went the extra mile on their 30th anniversary to provide a matching gift. We are ever so grateful for Bulk Barn''s long standing commitment of our work taking place in communities across the country," said Alzheimer Society Chief Development Officer Andrea Grimm.

The Alzheimer Society remains the foremost not-for-profit health organization working nationwide to improve the quality of life for Canadians affected by Alzheimer''s disease and other dementias. A study they commissioned concluded that the number of Canadians living with cognitive impairment will double to 1.4 million by 2031. They are working towards a nation-wide dementia plan that would target several areas including:

  • Increasing funding for research into all aspects of dementia

  • Promoting earlier diagnosis and intervention

  • Strengthening the integration of primary, home and community care

  • Enhancing skills and training of the dementia workforce

  • Recognizing the needs and improving supports for caregivers

Bulk Barn has proudly supported the Alzheimer Society over the past 8 years and it has been a true team effort with all stores from coast to coast participating annually. Franchisees and staff have worked hard in that time to raise a total of $1,305,925. The campaign''s success is owed in great part to the fact that all funds raised at store level stay in the community (140 regional branches) and go towards supporting local programs. This year, for the first time on Friday, September 21, World Alzheimer Day, Bulk Barn corporate office and their franchisees participated in a "Dollar Match" - for every $1 donated by a customer to their local Alzheimer Society Branch, both the corporate office and franchisees each contributed $1, providing a triple dollar donation to the charity.
