According to a release, the new programming space, named The Lab and sponsored by Amcor, will be open on April 6, 2024, and is dedicated to creating hands-on experiences that will help children build observational skills and inspire curiosity about the world.

While in the Lab, officials say visitors will experience the entire scientific method with kids investigating various topics while focused on building skills and communication in different focus areas of Ask, Think, Learn, and Share.

“To help encourage STEM exploration for all ages, The Lab will host daily activities around a variety of quarterly themes that encourage inquiry, experimentation, and collaboration.”

Oliver Zornow, President of the BFKCM

As part of the experience, visitors to The Lab will also learn more about what a real-life lab is like by wearing proper protective equipment while using real-world tools and instruments for scientific investigations.

Officials add that local scientists and engineers will also regularly host activities from within The Lab giving children more exposure to different STEM fields and careers.
