Bugatti's Million-Dollar Veyron Is Being Recalled Like It's a Regular Car

From Road & Track

As it turns out, recalls aren't only for FCA products and every car with a Takata airbag in it. Even million-dollar hypercars like the Bugatti Veyron can be subject to recalls. In this case, as many as 87 Veyrons made between 2006 and 2011 are being recalled for three different issues.

The first is a faulty fuel gauge that (per the release) "may cause a driver to unexpectedly run out of fuel and the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash." That doesn't sound good at all. Especially when you could conceivably be driving faster than 200 mph when your engine cuts out.

The second is a battery cable in that corrodes and "may result in the battery positive cable overheating, increasing the risk of a fire." Again, that does not sound good. Everyone expects Ferraris and the occasional Lamborghini to catch on fire, but the Veyron was supposed to be different. Apparently it's not.

Finally, there's also an issue with the jacking plates corroding and falling off. While that sounds a little better than your Veyron bursting into flames, it could happen while you're driving, which might result in your car shooting shrapnel at another car, causing it to crash. If that happens, you'll probably be in quite a bit of trouble.

In the event that you are a Veyron owner who would like to find out if your car is included in this string of recalls, you can call the NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
