Buffalo Public Schools passes 24-25 budget

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — In a unanimous vote, the Buffalo Public Schools Board of Education passed its budget for the 2024-25 school year.

Dr. Tonja Williams, the district’s superintendent, said this was not an easy process, with an estimated 30 layoffs included in the budget.

Buffalo Public Schools can’t guarantee there won’t be any layoffs next year

The possibility of layoffs in a number of local school districts has resulted in protests. For Buffalo Public Schools, the loss of $90 million in federal and other pandemic-era funds dealt a serious blow to the planning process.

Buffalo Public Schools has more than 7,000 staff members. In all, the approved budget totals more than $1 billion.
