The Buffalo Bills should pursue trade for receiver Alshon Jeffery

With the NFL’s trade deadline approaching, the Buffalo Bills still have time to try and improve their roster. So far this season has been extremely up and down for the team, especially on offense. Relying heavily on the running game, the Bills proved last week that they need a top level running back like LeSean McCoy to lead the way.

What happens if he get’s severely injured though? What happens if he has to miss some serious time? Can the Bills offense work without him? For one simple reason, I don’t think it can. That reason, the passing game is a disaster waiting to happen. There are no top receivers on this roster. With Watkins out, Robert Woods is considered the team’s number one.

In the simplest terms, the Buffalo Bills cannot win without either a strong run or passing game. Take LeSean McCoy out of the equation and Buffalo has neither. However, there is one way that I can see for the Bills to address this problem. Trade for a wide receiver, specifically Chicago Bears wideout Alshon Jeffery.

Though no one has officially stated that Jeffery is on the trade block, a tweet from CBS Sports Jason La Canfora about the Eagles and Jeffery stirred up the possibility of a trade. Needing a sure fire number one — or heck, top range number two — the Bills should at least inquire abut making such a trade.

With the Bears floundering this season, Jeffery would almost certainly love a trade that takes him to a possible playoff team. For the Bears, the draft picks the Bills may offer could be enough to make the deal work. With Jeffery in the lineup, Buffalo would at least have a physical receiving option for Tyrod Taylor to throw to.

Upon his immediate arrival in Buffalo, Jeffery would become the number one receiver for the team. With Sammy Watkins in the lineup, Jeffery and Watkins could be a dynamic duo of sorts. The passing game would be rejuvenated and provide the Bills with another form of attack. A backup plan of sorts. Something that would give the team’s opponents problems if they chose to solely focus on the Buffalo Bills run game.
