Momentum. Momentum is a big thing in all professional sports. With it, you can be unstoppable. Without it, well, let’s just say that the waters can be a little rough. Following last week’s loss against the rival Miami Dolphins, the Buffalo Bills enter this week’s contest against New England as a team on the edge. They don’t have the momentum, but a win this week could be all that’s needed to get that mojo working once again.

Every week this season, we will spend one day a week taking a look at the offensive player to watch and one day on the defensive player to watch from the Buffalo Bills. For the eighth week of the season, we will take a look at someone who is definetly playing at a surprisingly high level. Sack machine Lorenzo Alexander.

Lorenzo Alexander — Linebacker

Throughout the early part of training camp and the preseason, Lorenzo Alexander was a backup player for the Buffalo Bills. Ahead of him were both Manny Lawson and Shaq Lawson — once he returned from shoulder surgery. However, that all changed late in the preseason when Manny Lawson was released by the team.

Becoming an overnight starter, Lorenzo Alexander has yet to dissapoint. Arguably this seasons breakout player, Alexander has been an absolute sack machine through the Bills’ first seven games. In those seven games, Alexander has nine sacks, a stat that leads both the team and the league in that category.

Taking on the New England Patriots this week, Lorenzo Alexander will have to be on his game. In the previous contest, the Patriots struggled on every aspect of their offense. However, they were missing their key piece. They were missing Tom Brady. With Brady back in the lineup, this game will be nowhere near as easy as the first game between the two teams.

If the Buffalo Bills want to sweep their rivals this season, it will again come down to the play of the team’s defense. A key to the game for me will be the success of Lorenzo Alexander. If he can consistently get pressure on Brady, the Bills chances at the W will rise dramatically.
