BTPD: Armed robbery foiled by off-duty corrections officer

BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL)- The Bristol Tennessee Police Department (BTPD) arrested a suspect following an armed robbery that occurred at a gas station on Monday morning.

According to a news release from the department, BTPD officers responded to an armed robbery at the Scotchman convenience store on West State Street at around 6:13 a.m.

The suspect was identified as Brandon Scott Lowe, 28, of Salisbury, North Carolina, according to the release.

While the robbery was in progress, an armed Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office corrections officer stopped at the gas station on her way to work. The release said she held Lowe at gunpoint while employees helped the officer with handcuffing.

“The Bristol Tennessee Police Department would like to thank the corrections officer from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office for the vital role they played in this case,” the release said.

Lowe was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, criminal impersonation, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the release said.
