Bryan Cranston Apologizes for 'Fey' Comment About Gay Actor David Yost's Power Rangers Character

Bryan Cranston has apologized for comments he allegedly made about gay actor David Yost's role as the original blue ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

In a 2009 interview with IGN, Cranston reportedly referred to the blue ranger as the "fey" member of the Power Rangers ensemble.

"When I read the interview, which took place about a year before I came out publicly it really hurt me," Yost told NBC OUT when asked about Cranston being cast in the upcoming Power Rangers reboot.

Cranston, 60, responded to Yost's comments, saying he didn't remember making the joke but still takes responsibility for his potentially hurtful words.

"To be honest, I don't remember saying that," said Cranston in a statement to NBC OUT. "But I accept that I may have as Mr. Yost suggests, in an attempt at humor," he explained, adding: "To hear that my impulsive comment hurt someone's feelings, makes me contrite. I accept responsibility for the thoughtless remark and apologize to Mr. Yost and anyone else who may have been offended."

The actor supposedly made the comments while recalling his voice work on the 1990s show and revealing that Yost's character, Billy Cranston, was named after him. "He's the fey one, that's the problem," he said.

Yost said he read Cranston's interview a year before he came out in 2010.

"In his mind, he probably thinks he was being funny, but that's the kind of thing that's not funny, and that's the kind of thing I would hear while I was working on set," said Yost. "And when you hear stuff like that enough times, it gets to you – especially when he says, 'That's the problem.' "
