The thug suspected of shooting and seriously wounding a 5-year-old Bronx girl while she sat in her family’s car is now in custody — after cops and US Marshals found him cowering inside his grandmother’s bathroom, law enforcement sources told The Post Wednesday.

The accused gunman, Austin Morrishow, was tracked down thanks to a tip to NYPD Crimestoppers, the sources said. He was charged with possession of ammunition after a felony conviction.

The 26-year old was sought in the June 29 shooting of the young victim, who was in the backseat of beige Nissan on East 214th Street when a single slug hit the car from a block away and wounded the girl, police said.

The unidentified victim was rushed to Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, where she recovered.

“This was another successful takedown of an alleged dangerous fugitive, who was involved in the shooting of an innocent 5-year-old girl,” said US Marshal Ralph Sozio.

“I want to thank the Southern District of New York Warrant Squad, the NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force and the NYPD for their relentless pursuit in apprehending him without incident. This is a true testament that we will be relentless in our pursuit to bring you to justice, making our city streets safe,” he said.

US Attorney Damian Williams added: “Today’s arrest keeps our promise to work relentlessly with our law enforcement partners to track down and capture fugitives—whether it takes seven days, seven weeks, or seven months—and bring them to justice.”

The shooting came during a nearby vigil for Justin Rodriguez, a 26-year-old man who was gunned down days earlier in an unrelated shooting about a block from where the girl was shot.

Police said several people opened fire during the vigil.

Chief of Patrol John Chell said at a press conference outside the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore that the crime was linked to “a homicide the night before.”

“I can assure you, there will be closure in this case,” Chell said after the shooting.

“We just promised mom and dad that we will close this case in short fashion.”

The girl’s father later summed up the incident to The Post: “It was stupid.”

Sources said the suspect is now awaiting charges in the case.
