Brussels Terror Attack Death Toll Climbs to 35, Says Belgian Health Minister

Belgium's Minister of Health Maggie De Block announced Monday morning that the death toll from last Tuesday's terror attacks in Brussels had risen to 35 after four people died in the hospital.

"Four patients deceased in hospital. Medical teams did all possible. Total victims: 35. Courage to all the families," De Block tweeted Monday morning.

Prior to Monday's announcement, the number of victims confirmed dead was 31. The Belgian Crisis Center announced that 28 of those 31 original victims have been identified.

In her announcement on Monday, De Block did not say whether the identity of the additional four fatal victims is known, or whether they died in the explosions at Zaventem Airport or at the Maalbeek Metro station.

Previous fatal victim figures counted 15 killed at the airport and 13 killed at the metro station. Of these 28 people, 16 were Belgian, but other fatal victims were American, French, British, Swedish, Chinese and Dutch.

Over the weekend, the U.S. State Department confirmed four Americans died in the attacks.

Belgian officials announced this weekend that more than 340 people were wounded in the attacks, and of those, 101 remained in the hospital, with 32 in burn units, though a final casualty list has been difficult to determine. More than a dozen hospitals in Brussels and the surrounding area have taken in patients.
