Brush fire burns through nearly 5 acres in Suffolk

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A brush fire burned through nearly five acres in Suffolk Tuesday afternoon.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the 2200 block of Hosier Road around 3:44 p.m. When crews arrived on the scene, they found heavy smoke showing from an area just off the road.

The fire ripped through brush and trees on a private lot that houses a storage shed, two tractor-trailers and dozens of propane tanks. Officials said three of the propane tanks exploded.

Four nearby houses avoided damage, and no one was hurt.

The fire was contained and marked under control at 5:40 p.m.
