BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A fast moving fire burned 30 acres Wednesday in south Bakersfield, according to the Bakersfield Fire Department.

The brush fire broke out just after 4 p.m. Wednesday on Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard and Watts Drive. Video from the scene shows thick clouds of smoke filling the sky as a light breeze fanned the flames.

BFD Battalion Chief Tim Ortiz said, there is a significant homeless encampment activity in the area. Firefighters worked for 90 minutes before the fire was put out. No structures were threatened by the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by BFD’s Arson Unit and appears to be suspicious.

Fire crews were able to get the fire under control without any injuries being reported.
