'Bruce selfie wall': Transparent Clinch Gallery offers a snapshot of Springsteen today

Ready for your close-up? The Transparent Clinch Gallery in Asbury Park is different from the other locations on our Jersey Shore Springsteen map in that the Boss doesn't have a long history with the spot, which marked its five-year anniversary last fall.
Rather, the gallery is a snapshot of the history being made now. Gallery founder Danny Clinch has photographed seven Springsteen album covers in the last 20 years, including 2020's “Letter to You.” The vibe at Transparent is a chill place — somewhere between a hip art gallery and the former Upstage of Asbury Park. There's live music, Clinch prints, books, apparel and more for sale, much of it Springsteen themed.

“People tell me their story,” gallery manager Tina Kerekes said. “How many times they've seen Bruce Springsteen, when was the first show they've seen him, where they were. A lot of times it's 'He's got me through the tough times, hard times, weddings, divorces, birthdays and deaths.' They want to experience what it was like for Danny to photograph him, so the stories I tell or that Max (Clinch) tells about his dad taking the pictures add to that.”
A stage features performances by local and national artists, and fans take pictures with a life-sized Clinch photo of Springsteen on the Asbury Park boardwalk in the rear of gallery. The Boss did it himself with Clinch earlier this year.
“I call it the Bruce selfie wall,” Max said.
