Suspended Cleveland Browns wide receiver, Josh Gordon, met in person with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday. Could a reinstatement come next for the star receiver?

Reported first by the NFL Network, suspended Cleveland Browns receiver ,Josh Gordon, met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in person on Wednesday.

Though details of the meeting have not been revealed, Ian Rapoport suggests that Gordon’s suspension is still very much up in the air. This was just a step Gordon had to make before applying for reinstatement on August first, according to Rapoport.

Many around the league believe that Gordon getting reinstated this year is a long shot. However, it is exciting that we are drawing close to the time where Gordon can official apply to return. Whatever the NFL decides would provide much needed closure on this situation for the Browns organization and it’s fans, at least for the 2016 season.

Goodell and the NFL wanted Gordon to be able to demonstrate the ability to make good choices when it comes to his behavior off the field for an extended period of time. Since then Gordon has remained under the radar, and has separated himself from troubled former Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Should the NFL surprise everyone and reinstate Gordon for the 2016 season, the plans the Browns have for Gordon have not been made known yet. Hue Jackson and his staff have preached high character players, and though it is said that Gordon is a good person aside from his banned substance use, he has shown repeatedly that he cannot be trusted. Coach Jackson and the organization may want a fresh start from Gordon. If Jackson decides he wants to move on, you can’t fault him for that decision. Just remember, owner Jimmy Haslam has gone to bat for Gordon in the past, and it will be interesting to see if he does it again.

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Gordon is under Browns control, and is still suspended at the moment. The fate of Gordon’s future rests in the hands of the all knowing, all powerful Commissioner Goodell. Has Gordon done enough to show the league that he can be a law abiding citizen of the NFL? Only time will tell.
