Brother of ex-Dolphins CB Vontae Davis says he may have slipped leaving sauna

Details are beginning to emerge about the health of former Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis before he was discovered dead in his west Broward home Monday.

Vernon Davis, his brother and also a former NFL player, told dailymail.co.uk that his brother appeared to have either slipped or collapsed after stepping out of a sauna. Davis’ lifeless body was discovered when Davie Police answered a call from his assistant.

Police said foul play is not suspected.

Davis, 35, was a first-round draft pick of the Dolphins.

“This thing definitely caught me by surprise,” Vernon Davis said. “I just don't know what to make of it.”

Vernon said his brother did not have a history of using drugs.

“I’m leaning on the detectives to figure it out but right now we have no answers," Vernon said. "They are going to run tests and they said they'll get back to us. It could be as long as a month, a month and a half, until we know anything.”

Megan Harpe, Vontae’s ex-wife, told dailymail.com via text, “Yes he had CTE … there is definitely a story here.”

Chronic traumatic encephalopathy has been discovered in the brains of many former football players but can only be diagnosed after death.
