Brooklyn woman, 70, stabbed in the back in unprovoked street attack

A 70-year-old woman was stabbed in the back in a random attack across the street from her home in Brooklyn, police said Wednesday.

Fang Mei Lin was leaving her home on 53rd St. in Sunset Park to pick up her medicine when she was ambushed from behind near Eighth Ave. about 1:05 p.m. March 30, cops said.

Without saying a word, the attacker stabbed her in the back with an unknown object, drawing blood before running off.

Medics took the Lin to NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn in stable condition.

Her attacker has not been caught.

Lin said she was at a community center about three blocks from her home when she received a call that a medicine shipment had been delivered. She said she was attacked right outside the home she shares with her daughter and granddaughter.

“He didn’t say anything,” a bedridden Lin said as her granddaughter translated. “He stabbed me in the back, right by my right kidney. Right after he stabbed me he ran away toward the avenue. It hurt. I touched it and I saw blood.”

The attack happened a day before her 71st birthday.

“I was really shocked and scared after this,” she said. “I’m really afraid to go out now.”

“I want the police to catch this guy no matter if he’s white or Asian,” Lin said. “I want to know why this guy did this to me. If the police don’t catch this person there will be more and more victims. It can happen to anybody.”

Cops released a surveillance image of the suspect Wednesday and asked the public’s help identifying him and tracking him down. The incident was not considered a hate crime, cops said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers (800) 577-TIPS.
