Brooklyn Nine-Nine Review: Terry’s Kitties

This was a strong episode of Nine-Nine, with a fun Terry flashback and just the right amount of time devoted to the main and secondary stories. I’ll admit that Holt flashbacks are still my favorite, but Terry’s botched first case was definitely worth seeing, and solving it in the present led to some nice moments for Jake and Terry. I always love when Jake steps up to help his friends and working all night to solve Terry’s case was the perfect example of that. Plus, the sight of flattop Terry was worth the price of admission alone on this one.

We also had Amy and Rosa competing in a bomb dismantling class, with Holt shaming them into pulling back so he could claim victory for himself. I love when Holt descends into the fray a little bit, and this was a fun storyline for that. The three planning their next competition was also great, especially Amy taking it way too far by saying she was going to kill them both.

I thought Pimento was going to be a one episode trick, so I’ve been surprised to see him stick around the last couple of episodes. He’s a weird character that brings out a darkly comedic side of the show, so I’ve enjoyed him so far. I wasn’t surprised that Charles offered to let Pimento stay with him or that he was too scared/nice to tell him to leave, but there was that fun twist at the end with the usually unflappable Gina speechless after being beta’d by Charles.

All in all, one of their better episodes in awhile, especially in storyline balance.
