Brooke Carlson will not seek re-election for Rochester City Council president seat

Mar. 28—ROCHESTER — Rochester City Council President Brooke Carlson will not seek re-election in November.

While

serving as president since 2020,

Carlson said she has "tremendous gratitude for the opportunity to represent the people of Rochester." Shaun Palmer, ward 5 council member, has announced he will run for the president seat.

"It has been an honor of a lifetime to work with our incredible City staff, my colleagues on Council and Mayor Norton, and our community partners to usher our City from the height of a global pandemic to a new era of unprecedented public and private investment," Carlson said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon. "I am truly humbled by my countless interactions with community members who are working hard every day to build the community of tomorrow."

Carlson said Rochester will be "in the hands of our compassionate, responsible, and visionary leadership to carry forward the transformation."

"I am forever grateful for the love and support of my family and my dear friends during my time on Council," Carlson said in the statement. "Thank you to all who have supported me and trusted me with leading our beloved city. I look forward to exploring how I can contribute in other ways to building a just and thriving community."

The filing period for the council president seat and three other council seats starts May 21 and runs through June 3.
