While Denver Broncos fans have the right to speculate who they think should be the team’s starter down the stretch, Gary Kubiak might enjoy taking a page out of The Rock’s book by saying “It doesn’t matter what you think!”

Kubiak has named Trevor Siemian the starter for Saturday against the Los Angeles Rams:

The move should not come as a surprise. Everyone knows that Paxton Lynch isn’t realistically the favourite to land the job. It’s between Mark Sanchez and Siemian, and the former was awful on Saturday after committing two turnovers.

Siemian was playing well against the San Francisco 49ers in that game, but his pick-six overshadowed what was a decent day. The career backup has yet to start an NFL game and will get every chance Saturday. This is going to be fun.

A strong start by Siemian would assure he all but likely has the job locked up. There’d be one more preseason game before Week 1 kickoff, and it’d be hard for Sanchez to have the time to outplay Siemian. But a poor showing by Siemian would mean that Sanchez just has to look average and he’ll probably get the job.

There are two battles here: Which quarterback will play better to get the job AND which quarterback will be the best of the worst. So it could be that Siemian outplays Sanchez and wins the job, or both guys struggle but Siemian plays worse.

Either way, Broncos fans will get a better idea of who’ll face off against Cam Newton in Week 1 when the first half of Saturday’s game concludes. Enjoy.
