Broncos have to hang onto Mark Sanchez

The Denver Broncos quarterback situation is without a doubt a problem right now. Mark Sanchez is being judged too much on short opportunities, Paxton Lynch hasn’t impressed as a rookie and Trevor Siemian has played like an average backup.

But there are hints out there that the Broncos are considering moving on from Sanchez, which would be a costly mistake:

The Broncos may save money and a seventh-round pick, per Schefter, but the team would be silly to move on from him.

Say what you want about Sanchez, but he’s the best quarterback option Denver has. Their defence and ground game are enough to keep them in the playoffs. Sanchez is 4-2 in the playoffs–road victories against Carson Palmer, Philip Rivers, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady.

Sanchez has shown his ability time-and-time again to come through in the clutch, provided he has the right supporting cast around him–which he does in Denver. The team needs a veteran of some sort to occupy the roster, because Siemian and Lynch are completely inexperienced backups right now.

The Broncos don’t have any other options in the free agent or trade market. So sticking with Sanchez is their only option right now. With a strong rushing offense and a pair of dangerous wide receivers, Sanchez could succeed once and for all.

This is a team that went to the second round of the playoffs with Tim Tebow, after all.
