Broncos add Bill Musgrave: What it means, reactions

The Denver Broncos offseason has been bittersweet. They lost defensive coordinator Wade Phillips to the Los Angeles Rams, but brought back Mike McCoy as offensive coordinator after a successful stint in the Mile High City some seasons ago.

But now, the team made another huge addition that offsets the loss of Phillips by bringing in Bill Musgrave as quarterbacks coach, per Mike Klis:

Klis was also big on the hire:

Musgrave was the Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator from 2015-2016. It’s hard to deny his success in Oakland. Derek Carr became one of the league’s elite quarterbacks, Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree became arguably the league’s best receiving duo and Latavius Murray emerged as a powerful running back.

Oakland scored 22.24 points per game in 2015 despite ranking 24th in yards per game. Their offense became the league’s sixth-best unit in 2016, scoring a ridiculous 26 points per game, with Carr injured for the final week.

The Broncos needed to address the offense after consecutive lackluster performances all over the field. The question remains where they’ll go at quarterback, but getting Musgrave is a huge win. It also is a double-whammy in the sense that the Raiders lose a key part of their successful 2016 season, where they made the playoffs for the first time since 2003 with a 12-4 record.

Twitter was raving about Elway’s hire:

The main question now is if Elway will go with Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian or if he wants a veteran.
