Brockhampton Addresses Ameer Vann's Departure
In May, Brockhampton parted ways with founding member Ameer Vann following allegations of sexual and emotional abuse. "We want to sincerely apologize to the victims affected by Ameer's actions," their statement on the situation read. "We were lied to, and we're sorry for not speaking up sooner." Ever since, the group has remained pretty quiet about the situation, but Kevin Abstract has opened up about it in an interview with Billboard.
"I became aware of the allegations at the same time as the public did," Kevin stressed to Billboard. This all arrived shortly after Brockhampton signed a $15 million deal with RCA, a deal which, as Billboard notes, was split between them equally. The band initially stood by Ameer when the allegations first surfaced, but their statement alluded to a "lie" that indicated why they changed their stance.
When asked what the lie was, Kevin explained, "There was a few... It was just a few different things. It just made me... really skeptical... I guess I'm not comfortable going into details of what he was lying about. I do know that I was lied to."
As for why it took the band so long to respond to the allegations, he added, "We got off social media so we could finish working on the album, and during that same month that's when the allegations came up. We were really slow to respond to them. I just felt terrible that the fans couldn't reach us for answers."
