Broadway San Diego announces seven-show season

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Some of Broadway’s highly acclaimed musicals are coming to the San Diego Civic Theatre starting this fall and into next year.

Broadway San Diego kicks off its 47th season with “Kimberly Akimbo,” a new musical about a young girl who is forced to deal with a rare genetic condition and family secrets, among other problems, after moving to suburban New Jersey.

“Kimberly Akimbo” will have showings at the San Diego Civic Theatre from Oct. 8-13, 2025.

Other musicals coming to San Diego for the first time include “Back to the Future: The Musical,” “Some Like It Hot,” “A Beautiful Noise,” “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” and “Shucked.”

From Jan. 14 to 19, “Back to the Future: The Musical” revamps the beloved 1985 Robert Zemeckis film with original music by multi-Grammy award winners Alan Silvestri (Avengers: Endgame) and Glen Ballard (Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror”).

Get ready to be enthralled by tap-dancing gangsters in the four-time Tony Award-winning musical “Some Like It Hot” from Jan. 28 to Feb. 2.

Set in Chicago during the Prohibition Era, the story follows two musicians on the run after witnessing a mob hit, all while delivering an irresistible combination of laughs and dazzling choreography.

The hit musical “Wicked” returns to the Broadway San Diego stage with nearly a month of showings from Feb. 5 to March 2.

Then, the story of Neil Diamond comes to life onstage in “A Beautiful Noise” from May 27 to June 1. It takes theatergoers and American pop music fans through his journey from growing up in Brooklyn to selling out concerts around the world.

10-time Tony Award winner “Moulin Rouge! The Musical,” a stage adaptation of the Baz Luhrmann film “Moulin Rouge,” will also be stopping by San Diego. Showings are scheduled for June 24 to July 6.

The 47th season closes August 12 to 17 with “Shucked,” a musical comedy about a man who tries to save the livelihood of his small town and, of course, corn.

Broadway San Diego’s seven-show ticket packages start at $328. All shows take place at the San Diego Civic Theatre located at 1100 Third Ave. downtown.
