British Markus Smith trekked the trip on foot from Budapest to Uzhhorod in order to enlist in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The story of the foreigner was revealed for the public in the Transcarpathian Regional Territorial Centre for Recruitment and Social Support (enlistment office – ed.).

Marcus travelled over 300 kilometres in 8 days, 6 hours, 36 minutes and 14 seconds.

"For the past few years, the war in your country has been covered on television around the world. I believe that you deserve great respect and honour, because you are fighting for the peaceful life of your country. I came here to try to help you in this war," said the man from Manchester.

According to Smith, Vladimir Putin may want to seize even more territories.

"He will want more and more and that could lead to a Third World War in which he would be like Hitler. Putin will continue to go from country to country, saying: ‘I want this and this! And these are my rules!’

Therefore, I am here: to fight for Ukrainians and, I hope, to prevent a world war," he added.

Marcus also stated that the UK only survived and maintained its freedom thanks to the assistance of other countries during World War II. Thus, he wishes to do everything he can to stop the aggressor.
