Britney Spears Covers ‘Something To Talk About’ Live
Britney Spears is well-aware of what haters and the press are saying about her vocal prowess — specifically the lack thereof. But this weekend, the princess of pop silenced her bashers when she performed live without a backing track.
On Saturday, Spears took the time to address the issue that she’s been lip-syncing her performances during her concerts. During her “Piece of Me” show in Las Vegas, the “Crazy” hitmaker sang a flawless cover of Bonnie Raitt’s “Something to Talk About,” which indeed gave everyone something to talk about.
A fan who captured the glorious moment on camera shared a video clip of Spears’ song number on Instagram, and the post has since received a lot of positive reactions. One commented: “For all the haters who say she cant’s sing!!!” Another wrote: “She just started randomly singing live!!!! Sounds so good.”
Prior to doing the cover, Spears told the crowd why she chose Raitt’s song. “So I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately, right? This morning I woke up and I was like, ‘There’s a lot of things going on in the world’ and stuff, but basically I looked and I was like, you know what, the press and the media my whole life … you know, it’s really crazy, one minute they tear you down … and the next minute you’re on top of the world,” she said.
“I’ve never really spoke [sic] about it, you know, and I’m a Southern girl. I’m from Louisiana. I’m from the South and I like to keep it real,” she was quoted as saying by Us Weekly. “So I want to just make sure I keep having you … something to talk about ok?”
Spears has been a constant subject of criticism since many are claiming that she’s been lip-syncing during her shows. However, the “Toxic” songstress has time and time again responded to the allegations in her own unique way.
Back in June, she showed off her impressive pipes in front of an audience by singing the “Happy Birthday” song live for her bodyguard of five years, Jacob, during her concert in Singapore. A video clip of her singing has been circulating in social media since.
Last month, Spears chose to address the lip-syncing claims during an interview with an Israeli TV Show. “A lot of people think that I don’t sing live. Usually, because I’m dancing so much, I do have a little playback, but there’s a mixture of my voice and the playback,” she said, according to People. “It really pisses me off [because] nobody ever really gives me credit for it, you know?”
