British police evacuate homes near house of couple murdered in France

LONDON - Police say they have evacuated homes near the house of a British-Iraqi couple slain while vacationing in the French Alps because of concerns about items found at the property.

Surrey police gave no further details today about what had been found in the home of murder victim Saad al-Hilli.

French police have been scrambling to hunt down leads since Wednesday's rampage in which Al-Hilli, his wife, a woman believed to be his mother-in-law and a French cyclist were killed.

The couple's daughters, four-year-old Zeena and seven-year-old Zaina, survived the shooting,

Authorities say they are probing whether an alleged financial dispute between Saad al-Hilli and his brother Zaid played a role, though the surviving brother has denied any conflict.
