British intelligence reveals Russia’s failed ammunition use, resulting in damage on own territory

Regular cases of the Russian military dropping ammunition on their own territory indicate Russia's inability to successfully use the weapons as intended, the British Ministry of Defense said in its intelligence report published on X on May 11.

Intelligence officials believe that such errors have devastating and deadly consequences for the Russian population and are not isolated. In Belgorod Oblast alone, 20 munitions were accidentally dropped between March and April.

A Russian fighter jet accidentally dropped a FAB-500 bomb on a civilian area in Belgorod on May 4. At the time, the Belgorod regional governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, confirmed the explosion and the damage in the street, without giving a reason. 30 houses and 10 cars were damaged, and five people needed hospital treatment, illustrating the destructive power of the munitions.

Unplanned launches of Russian missiles and bombs

The governor of Russia’s Voronezh Oblast, Alexander Gusev, reported on Jan. 3 that four people were injured in the village of Petropavlovka due to the fall of one of the missiles that the Russian forces launched during the massive attack on Ukraine on the evening of Jan. 1 and in the early hours of Jan. 2.

A Russian warplane dropped a FAB-250 aircraft bomb on the temporarily occupied Rubizhne, Luhansk Oblast, on Jan. 8. The Russian authorities called the incident an "abnormal launch".

The head of the Luhansk Oblast Military Administration, Artem Lysohor, reported that the bomb was dropped over the part of the city that survived the fighting in 2022.

Russian army aircraft also “lost” two FAB-250 bombs in Belgorod Oblast at the end of January. According to the Russians, the bombs fell and did not explode and were later defused.

The Russian military "lost" another FAB-250 bomb over the village of Soloti on Feb. 18, which led to the evacuation of 150 residents.

Two more FAB-500 and FAB-250 bombs were found on the outskirts of the villages of Smorodino, Yakovlevsky urban district, and Zybino, Borisovsky district, on March 26.

The next day, Russian army aviation "lost" a Kh-59 missile over Belgorod Oblast, which was "abnormally launched" 92 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.

Another "abnormal launch" of a munition from a Russian army plane occurred in Krasnodar Krai on May 7. The Russian authorities claimed that there were no casualties.
