British Ambassador Harris spends Good Friday in bunker amid Russian assault on Ukraine

British Ambassador Martin Harris took to social media platform X to share his harrowing experience of spending Good Friday in a bunker due to an intense Russian military assault on Ukraine on March 29.

Ambassador Harris highlighted the escalation of attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilians, especially poignant during the Easter season.

"Russia is stepping up its vile attacks on Ukraine’s cities and citizens this Easter. My Good Friday began in the bunker," wrote Harris.

The situation escalated with an air alert issued across several Ukrainian regions on March 28, in response to Russian drones penetrating the airspace. These drones, advancing westward, were linked to explosions reported in cities like Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk.

Russia launched 99 targets on March 29, including 60 Shaheds, Kinzhal, Iskander, X-59, and X-101/X-555 missiles, according to the Ukrainian Air Force. Air defense forces destroyed 84 targets: 58 Shaheds and 26 missiles.

Poland's military confirmed the deployment of fighter jets to counter the Russian Kinzhal missiles aimed at Western Ukraine.

Ukrenergo, an electricity transmission system operator, reported damage to thermal power plants and hydroelectric power plants in the central and western oblasts. Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said that Russians attacked facilities in Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, and Cherkasy oblasts.

Energy company DTEK reported serious damage to three thermal power plants.

Russia attacked critical infrastructure of Dnipropetrovsk oblast, damaging several facilities, according to regional authorities. A total of 24 missiles and drones were shot down in oblast by Air Forces, said regional governor Serhiy Lysak.The enemy hit residential buildings near Kamianske, resulting in five wounded, a five-year-old girl among them.
