Britain’s Got Talent judge Bruno Tonioli had a mishap as he broke the Golden Buzzer on the panel.

The moment, which was teased during filming earlier this year, came during tonight’s (May 18) episode after Phoenix Boys, a dance troupe hailing from various parts of the UK, completed their audition.

Following the energetic performance, a mixture of ballet and gymnastics, the former Strictly Come Dancing judge opted to use the Golden Buzzer, but smacked it so hard that he caused it to crack.

“He’s broken it, he’s broken the buzzer,” remarked fellow judge Alesha Dixon following the incident, with Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell both seeing the funny side as Bruno was shocked by his own strength.

Bruno was emotional throughout the performance, with Amanda asking him if the troupe reminded him of himself. He subsequently joined the ensemble on stage, revealing that he connected with their routine.

“I know how hard it is, what you do,” he told them, before addressing the audience. “People don’t really understand how hard it is to succeed as a dancer. The work and passion that goes into it, and you literally do it for nothing other than love – and I felt that.”

Bruno’s mishap with the buzzer provoked a response on social media, with one fan writing on X/Twitter: “Bruh, as he presses the Golden Buzzer way too hard and broke it, I burst out laughing. Somebody needs a new Golden Buzzer or get a new one. Anyways, it was a great dance group.”

Elsewhere in the episode, Simon sprang a surprise for comedian Alex Mitchel, who revealed before his routine that he was yet to tell his parents that he had applied for the show.

Following four votes from the judges, Simon surprised Alex’s parents by calling them, with Alex sharing a heartfelt moment over the phone.

Britain's Got Talent airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
