The annual California State Fair is almost here and whether you’re planning your first or 50th visit, it’s a good idea to brush up on the rules before you go.

The state fair returns to Cal Expo at 1600 Exposition Blvd. on Friday. The last day of the fair will be Sunday, July 30.

All guests and containers entering Cal Expo and the California State Fair are subject to a protective screening and security search, according to the California State Fair website.

Illegal substances are prohibited.

Keep shirts and shoes on at all times. Both real and toy weapons as well as drones, selfie sticks and tripods should be left at home.

Before you hit the road, here’s your guide to the general rules of the California State Fair:

Can minors go alone?

Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult 21 or older.

An adult can only chaperone five children at a time. Anyone entering Cal Expo and the California State Fair may be asked to show a valid I.D.

Organized and ticketed groups — including schools, churches and summer camps — are exempt from the rule and should have their own chaperone policies in place.
